The Zanzibar Association of Tour Operators (ZATO) yesterday, 16 September 2026, held a productive meeting with senior representatives from RwandAir, including the Acting Chief Commercial Officer, Commercial Manager, and Sales & Marketing Executive.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both organisations to introduce their roles and explore practical areas of collaboration that can create greater value for ZATO members and Zanzibar’s tourism industry.
Among the key areas discussed were:
Special fares and discounts for ZATO members to support their business travel and tourism operations.
Special benefits for company directors and representatives, subject to RwandAir’s applicable arrangements.
Special group packages and rates for ZATO members participating in exhibitions, trade fairs and other tourism events.
A Familiarisation (FAM) Trip to Rwanda for ZATO, providing tour operators with an opportunity to experience Rwanda’s tourism products and destinations, while creating direct B2B connections with tourism stakeholders and tour operators in Rwanda.
Engagement with the Rwanda Tour and Travel Association (RTTA) to explore opportunities for cooperation and business-to-business partnerships between tour operators in Zanzibar and Rwanda.
Dedicated communication channels between RwandAir and ZATO to facilitate engagement and follow-up on matters related to airline services affecting tour operators and their clients.
Exploring a potential MoU between ZATO and RwandAir to establish a framework for long-term cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
RwandAir’s participation in ZATO events, including the ZATO AGM, creating opportunities for visibility, networking and direct engagement with Zanzibar’s tour operator community.
The discussions highlighted the importance of stronger collaboration between the airline, tour operators and tourism associations in creating new business opportunities, strengthening connectivity and promoting travel between Zanzibar, Rwanda and other connected markets.
ZATO looks forward to continuing discussions with RwandAir and working towards practical initiatives that will deliver meaningful opportunities and benefits for our members.
